Shift change at McDonald’s. Inside, a well dressed old
man asks his tablemates “Did you see those
advertisements on television where he gets up from the
stretcher and…” Behind the counter a worker says
“seems like everybody ain’t coming to work today,
huh.” Another worker responds that so and so is
coming to work, he’s just late. The holidays are fast
approaching so people don’t want to come to work,
where they work hard and faithfully for very little money
and even smile sometimes. It’s a celebration of Christ,
sort of. His return. It’s Christ that has gotten up off his
stretcher. No, nattily attired old person, I haven’t seen
that advertisement but I’m eagerly awaiting it. I’ll smile
and wave and say ”Welcome back.”
